203 Sherwood Park Scouts

News, information and events for the 203 Sherwood Park Scout Group. We have space available in our Beaver Colony (boys and girls ages 5-7), a wait list for our Cub Pack (boys and girls ages 8-10), a wait list for our Scout Troop (boys and girls ages 11-14), and we currently don't have a Venturer Company (boys and girls ages 14-17). Join us in our adventures on the Canadian Path!

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers have a lot of fun discovering new things and experiences they wouldn't have elsewhere. Beavers will be meeting on Monday, October 19, 2020 at – Centennial Park, 4000 Sherwood Dr, (Map), from 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.

Please join us at Centennial Park for a ceremony campfire.

We will be welcoming youth into our group and celebrating youth personal progression through a tail ceremony.
We will also be roasting marshmallows and singing campfire songs.

Parents welcome to attend, but we need to know who will be attending to ensure the COVID parameters are adhered too. Please provide attendees names in sign up notes. To do this please sign into ScoutsTracker (link to ScoutsTracker).

Please ensure your backpacks have:
– extra masks
– water
– hand sanitizer
– toque and mitts
– headlamp or flashlight

**Please ensure youth use the washroom prior to the meeting as there are no washroom facilities available.

*All participants must wear a face mask.*

Cubs will be meeting on Monday, October 19, 2020 at – Centennial Park, 4000 Sherwood Dr, (Map), from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Drop off and pick-up will be from the parking lot
nearest the picnic shelter.

We will be making fire starters as well as collecting and making pie plate fires.  If you have a cardboard egg carton, dryer lint, or flint and steel please be sure to bring them along.

Thank you to those of you that took bird houses home to build from last weeks meeting.  Here is a video that Scouter Roland and Scouter

Details for this Activity/Event

  • Purpose:     Canadian Path/Personal Journey Preview

Have you built your birdhouse(s)?

**If not we need you to build them as soon as you can see below on how to return them**
Inside your birdhouse package you received:

  • An instruction booklet – which can also be found online at http://bit.ly/GolondrinasDesign
  • A green sheet of paper which contains the link from above on it as well as your birdhouse unique number which would be G-1###. Please ensure that you write this number on the inside of your birdhouse along with your name. This will allow us (and you) to track your birdhouse on the property.
  • When your birdhouse is built please roll the green piece of paper up and poke it inside the entry way hole to the birdhouse and leave it hanging out so we can record your birdhouse as well for tracking purposes.

  • Customers select product(s) and adds them to the cart and selects checkout.

Let’s do the Great Canadian Hike!  What a Scouting way to start your day by going on a 6 km hike with your 203 Scout Patrols and being part of such a great community event across Canada! The deadline date to sign up for this event is by *THURSDAY, October 15, 2020.

Details for this Activity/Event:

  • Purpose:     The Great Canadian Hike
  • Date/ Time:  Saturday, October 17, 2020 @ 9:00 am – 11:00 am
  • Location: (See attached map for Visual Detail)Starting Point:    1. Riverside Nature Trail, 23270 Township Road 540, Strathcona County
    • Finishing Point:  2. 54250 Range Road 231, Strathcona CountyP.S***  Please click here to see Map that outlines the details of where we are planning on taking our hike.

Be Prepared to Plan/Do/Review:

  • Plan – Google search the https://greatcanadianhike.ca/ to learn more about the event.
  • DO – Break into Patrols and Hike the Great Canadian Trail (Patrols)
  • REVIEW –  Have youth share their pictures in the 203 Scouts Google Classroom so we can post the event(Everyone)

NOTE*:  A friendly reminder to all Scouts & Scouters, a Backpack is required for all outdoor activities/events.  The following items that are required are as follows:

  • Water Bottle or Hot Drink Thermos and  a healthy snack (Weather Permitting)
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Face Mask(s)
  • Headlamp or Flashlight
  • Warm Headgear & gloves
  • Mobile Camping Chair or Tripod Stool

Beavers will be meeting on Monday at –  A.J. Ottewell Community Centre Parking Lot,  590 Broadmoor Blvd (Map), from 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.

We will be Hiking and exploring storm pond life.
A reminder that masks are required for all

Please ensure your backpacks include:
– Toque, mitts, water bottle, flash light/head lamp, extra mask, hand santizer, and a mug.

Only a necker is required for this meeting and dress for the weather. Please ensure your youth use the washroom before getting to the meeting as there is washroom at this location.

Cubs Meeting Info. – Monday, October 5, 2020

Cubs will be meeting on Monday from 6:30 – 8:00 at Woodbridge Farms Elementary School, 1127 Parker Drive (Map).

The 203 Sherwood Park Cubs are pleased to welcome Mr. Roland and Ms. Kelly from the Sherwood Park Fish and Game Association, to help us build birdhouses.

The Sherwood Park Fish and Game Association has provided pre-cut and assembled packages for the youth to build, at our meeting, and some to take home and build with our families.  Mr. Roland will guide us through the process to put together a birdhouse.  The houses will then be put up at the Sherwood Park Fish and Game Association, Ketchamoot Creek Property, with GSP locations attached to each one so that we can go out and locate them at a future meeting.

There are extra birdhouses that can be taken home to build, Any Birdhouses brought home to build must be returned at the October 19th meeting.  If you haven’t let Scouter Amy know how many you’d like to take home please do so before Monday’s meeting.

-Be sure to do your pre-screening before arrival.

-Be sure to use the washroom before you come as there is not one available.

-Masks will be mandatory until we figure out spacing.

-Please dress for the weather, as it’s starting to get chilly in the evenings.

-Don’t forget to wear your neckers. Full uniforms are not required as they will be hiding under warm outerwear.

*Also please bring your backpack to every meeting with FULL water bottle, small healthy snack, headlamp, situpon, extra mask, first aid or emergency kit (the ones the youth created, if they haven’t made one with us let us know.) Thin gloves might also be a great addition to their packs as it’s starting to get chilly in the evenings.

***Bring HAMMER & SAFETY GLASSES in your backpack. (Please let Scouter Amy know if you do not have these items)***

Hello 203 Scout Troop!

Let’s try some Geocaching!  This is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called “geocaches” or “caches”, at specific locations marked by coordinates all over the world.

Purpose for this Activity/Event: Geocaching at Broadmoor Lake

 

Be Prepared to Plan/Do/Review:

  • Plan – Download the free App ( i.e. https://www.geocaching.com/play ) on your electronic devices and set up an account BEFORE you get to Monday night’s meeting. (Everyone)
  • DO – Break into Patrols and Geocache around Broadmoor Lake Park (Patrols)
  • REVIEW – Fall Season Cycle activities/events (Everyone)
