203 Sherwood Park Scouts

News, information and events for the 203 Sherwood Park Scout Group. We have space available in our Beaver Colony (boys and girls ages 5-7), a wait list for our Cub Pack (boys and girls ages 8-10), a wait list for our Scout Troop (boys and girls ages 11-14), and we currently don't have a Venturer Company (boys and girls ages 14-17). Join us in our adventures on the Canadian Path!

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers have a lot of fun discovering new things and experiences they wouldn't have elsewhere. Along the way they develop into capable, confident and well-rounded individuals, better prepared for success in the world. Scouting offers a world where youth can discover the best in themselves and the best in others, and offers adventures that they will remember for a lifetime!

Beavers will be meeting on Monday at A.J. Ottewell Community Centre Parking Lot, 590 Broadmoor Blvd (Map) from 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.

Welcome Back Beavers 

We will be working with youth to get ideas for future meetings and updating badge records.

We will also be doing a craft that can be used for future outdoor meetings and exploring the meeting site.

Please bring your backpacks and ensure they include:

– Toque, mitts, filled water bottle, flash light/head lamp, extra mask, and hand santizer

Only a necker is required for this meeting and dress for the weather.  **Please ensure your youth use the washroom before getting to the meeting as there is washroom at this location.

Cubs Meeting Information – Monday, September 28, 2020

Cubs will be meeting on Monday from 6:30 – 8:00 at Woodbridge Farms Elementary School, 1127 Parker Drive (Map)

Welcome back Cubs! 

We will be having fun in our new adventure teams, creating a code of conduct.  We will also discuss what adventures we would like to do this year. As well as create a situpon for the youth to use throughout the year.

–Be sure to do your pre-screening before arrival

–Be sure to use the washroom before you come as there is not one available.

–Masks will be mandatory until we figure out spacing.

–Please dress for the weather, as its starting to get chilly in the evenings.

–Don’t forget to wear your neckers.

**Also please bring your backpack to every meeting with FULL water bottle, small snack, headlamp, extra mask, first aid or emergency kit (the ones the youth created, if they haven’t made one with us let us know.) thin gloves might also be a great addition to their packs as its starting to get chilly in the evenings.**

Welcome Back 203 Scout Troop!

The wait is over.  It’s time to get back to Scouting and enjoy safe but fun adventures in person and outdoors!

Be Prepared to Plan/Do/Review:

  • Do – Welcomes & Introductions (Everyone)
  • Plan – Patrols (Scouter Roland)
  • Do – Code of Conduct (Nathaniel Lueke)
  • Plan – Fall Season Cycle activities/events (Everyone)

NOTE*:  A friendly reminder to all Scouts & Scouters, a Backpack is required for all outdoor meetings.  The following items that are required are as follows:

  • Water Bottle or Hot Drink Thermos
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Face Mask(s)
  • Headlamp or Flashlight
  • Warm Headgear & gloves
  • Mobile Camping Chair or Tripod Stool

P.S***  Please take a moment to put your “name, contact# & the # of Birdhouses” in the shared spreadsheet I emailed (September 22) to all families.   Birdhouses will be handed out at the end of Monday’s meeting.

Want to know more information about the Damboree Camp?
What: The 2020 Alberta Beaver Damboree
Where: Camp Woods, Sylvan Lake, AB (map)
When: June 12-14, 2020 (Friday night until Sunday afternoon)
Who: Beavers from all across Alberta.
Why: To have fun, camp, and learn about science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), and outdoor skills

The Damboree is the big camp of the year, held by the Northern Lights Council at Camp Woods outside of Sylvan Lake, AB. Beavers groups from across Alberta come together to have fun, go camping, and learn some cool STEM projects.

Part of this year’s camp will be the requirement to build a chariot out of cardboard and other items to use to transport equipment between events throughout the weekend.

The Beavers will be camping in tents, cooking outdoors, and hiking, canoeing, singing songs, and having campfires. The first night is a special night for the White Tails as they get to link with the White Tails from other groups, stay in cabins, and do some special projects. Meanwhile the Brown and Blue Tails will be camping as a group.

It’s a great opportunity for the youth to meet Beavers from other parts of Alberta, do some fun camping activities, and make wonderful memories.

*Early registration payment is due at the March 9, meeting.

Beavers Meeting Information – Monday, March 2, 2020

Monday, March 2 –   6:15 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Mill’s Haven School 73 Main Blvd, Sherwood Park, AB T8A 0R1 (map). White tails will meet to discuss chariot plans (build for Damboree camp **see below for more information about the camp), Northern Lights Quest plans, and ideas for activities for Beavers at the meetings. Blue and Brown tails beavers will read Beaver story. We will also discuss Code of Conduct and the Beavers will work on lashings.
–Damboree sign up is next week see below for more information (please let Scouter Chinook (Jason) know if you have any questions

SATURDAY, March 7 – Beaver Hills Vehicle Rally – Beavers who have signed up will be racing their Beaver Buggies. Please watch for a separate email with more information, in the meantime, scroll up and check at the top of this email.
