Beavers Meeting Info. – Monday, October 7, 2019

Beavers Meeting Info. – Monday, October 7, 2019

Monday, October 7, meeting is 6:15-7:30 p.m. at Mill’s Haven Elementary School, will be the investiture of the new Beavers and the tail ceremony for those Beavers moving up to the next level. The meeting starts at the regular time of 6:15, with the ceremony taking place for the last 30 minutes, from 7:00 – 7:30. Parents are encouraged to join us for the ceremony and help officially welcome the Beavers to the 203 Sherwood Park Scouts.

October 12-13 – The Eskimos Sleepover for those who have already registered.

October 14 – there is no meeting for Thanksgiving

Upcoming Event:
WEDNESDAY, November 6 –  Masonic Remembrance Day Ceremony

The 203 Sherwood Park Beavers and their parents have been invited to join Acacia Lodge #11, of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, for a Remembrance Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 6. The meeting will be held at 10433 83 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 2C7, in Old Strathcona from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.

The Lodge wants to host the Beavers and parents for a night involving a craft commemorating Remembrance Day, have the Beavers participate in the ceremony itself, and help teach the children about the importance of Remembrance Day and why we take the moment on November 11 to think about the those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Canada.

These activities will complement and be similar to the activities that the youth would participate in during school, church, or Remembrance Day ceremonies on November 11, as part of the 203 Sherwood Park Scouts.

The parallels between Freemasonry and Scouts are extensive, as both organizations hold service to others, development of oneself intellectually, socially, physically, and spiritually, and integrity in high esteem. In fact, there are many other similarities between Scouting and Freemasonry through the use of ceremonies, salutes, pledges, and uniforms. While there is no direct evidence that Sir Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouts organization, was a Freemason, and no official link between the organizations, there is ample evidence of the linkages between the two groups throughout their history.

As a former member of the Royal Canadian Navy, a Freemason, and a Scouter with the 203 Sherwood Park Scouts, I feel that this will be an excellent opportunity for the Beavers to gain a better understanding of what this day means to Canadians.

If parents have any questions or concerns, I highly encourage them to contact myself directly at jgreidanus@gmail.com
Thank you,
Jason
